The CRL is published periodically. Each publication will include all the certif icates revoked at that time, but certificates revoked after the publication will wait until the next publication. A CRL publication period, by default, is one week, but it can be adjusted by the CA administrator. Publishing more frequently means revocation lists are more up to date and thus a higher degree of security can be maintained. However, the more frequent the publication, the more burden there is on the network.

We discussed a JAX-WS service endpoint interface in Separating the Web Services Contract on page 401. Our client can use the same interface. This means that the client uses all of the annotations we defined for the server side. However, remember that you are not limited to just talking to JAX-WS web services. A web service can be running on any platform in any language. So, in those scenarios, you will not reuse the service endpoint interface but will instead use a tool to generate one for you. To ignore schedules, complete the following steps: 1. Click Start, point to Administrative Tools, and then click Active Directory Sites And Services. 2. Open the Inter-Site Transports folder and right-click either the IP or SMTP folder, and then click Properties. 3. On the General tab in the IP Properties or SMTP Properties dialog box, shown in Figure 5-13, select the Ignore Schedules check box. Click OK.

It takes time for the CRL to reach all areas of the network. When one of the CRL distribution points is Active Directory, time is needed for replication. In recognition of this latency, a CRL also has a validity period that is longer than the publication period. By default, the validity period is a 10 percent exten sion of the publication period. (Registry entries allow adjustment of this time period to allow for slow Active Directory replication.) The validity period is the time the CRL is considered to be authoritative by certificate verifiers.

Bridgehead servers are the contact point for exchange of directory information between sites. Replication occurs between bridgehead servers in different sites. When two sites are connected by a site link, the KCC automatically selects bridgehead servers one in each site for each domain that has domain controllers in the site. The KCC then creates inbound-only connection objects between bridgehead servers. You can designate bridgehead servers manually if you want the same servers to be always used as bridgehead servers. You can specify a preferred bridgehead server if you have a computer with appropriate bandwidth to transmit and receive information. If there s typically a high level of direc tory information exchange, a computer with more bandwidth can ensure these exchanges are handled promptly. Matching the demands of your Active Directory deployment with a domain controller having the capacity to handle those demands can help to enable efficient updates of directory information. You can specify multiple pre ferred bridgehead servers, but only one in each site is the active preferred bridgehead server at any time. You must specify a preferred bridgehead server if your deployment uses a firewall to protect a site. Establish your firewall proxy server as the preferred bridgehead server, making it the contact point for exchanging information with servers outside the firewall. If you do not do this, directory information might not be successfully exchanged.
